Creating Bridges: Spirituality & Philosophy:
Lynn Andrews and The Path of the Heart

Power Deck Card
of the Month: Wisdom

Card 7-South

by Lynn Andrews
Power Deck Card

“In love there must be trust. Without trust, there is no love. Jealousy is an illness of the mind and heart. Trust lives in the lodge of your innocence. The ‘heyoka’ is a warrior of the Native American tradition who goes into battle backward on his horse with a broken lance, knowing that the Great Spirit will protect him. It is this kind of trust that you need. The imbalanced aspects of partriarchal history reside like stone carvings within each of us. Welcome the new aspects of feminine power in your being even though they may seem foreign. Trust in the ways of power and the Great Spirit. Know that you are made of power, and live with trust in your heart.”

Winter Message:

The New Year is upon us. It is time to go within, to the winter of our dreaming, and hibernate. Imagine a place with tall columns, with light everywhere and deep blue pools of silken water. You are walking underneath these columns, and the ceiling is angled to let in the sunlight.

You feel a beckoning, and you quicken your pace. You enter a large pyramid at the end of the rows of columns. The doorway is open; it is massive, and two large statues flank the opening on either side.

You move inside. The air is still and smells sweet. You hear a woman’s voice, soft and enticing. She is chanting, and she sounds like a mother crooning to her baby.

You follow the voice up a large, wide staircase. Feeling within yourself a welcoming void, you recognize something about this person.

At the top of the stairs you notice there are doors on either side of you. You pass the rooms, even though you are curious about what lies behind the doors. At the end of the hallway, you see a door that is slightly ajar, and the singing is louder here.

You move quietly, with excitement, and you open the door slowly. Inside, you see a lavish room. There is an altar at the end of the room, beside a wide balcony open to the vista outside.

A woman is standing with her back to you. You feel the serenity and the power of her as you approach. You are somewhat timid, but you trust that this is a person who is loving and kind.

Suddenly, the woman turns and you look into her face.

She is you, the authentic being that you are! You feel yourself merge with her, and you walk to the balcony. You spread your arms, and suddenly you feel your wings outstretched behind you! Soaring on the warm wind off the desert, you fall into the air, gliding on spirit wings! You have come home to yourself!

Life is a process of remembering your original nature, remembering why you were born and who you truly are – remembering that you are here to become one with your god in this lifetime, if you choose. When you focus your intent by working well, you find a beautiful sense of wholeness.

During this time of winter, as you dream and hibernate, think of the past year. What did you accomplish? Honor yourself for all of your accomplishments.

How have your dreams changed? What would you like to change in the coming year? What did you let go of, and, what is still holding you back?

Dream on all of this. Allow the movement to carry you into new and inviting places where your trust lives, where innocence lives. What does your authentic self look like? What new things would you like to try in the coming year? Just imagine, for a little bit, what you’d like to do. Play with this, gently and lovingly. This is a time for reflection and rest. So, close your eyes, and dream!

Prayer:

Long ago, I was sitting at the foot of the Annapurna Himal, on the border of Tibet and Nepal, with my teachers, Agnes Whistling Elk, Ruby Plenty Chiefs and Ani, a Nepalese hill woman who is a member of the Sisterhood of the Shields. There was a river coming down from the Himalayas, rushing by us down into the rolling plains of Nepal. We were having tea, and I took a spoonful of sugar and dumped it in the river coursing by. In an instant, the sugar disappeared. I looked at my teachers tearfully, and I said, “That is what I feel about the dedication of my life to our work, to healing the earth and her people. I feel that my work is lost in a torrent of ignorance. How can I – how can anyone – ever make a difference?”

As Agnes and Ruby so often do when I take myself too seriously, they pulled my consciousness around and made me laugh. Then Agnes turned her magnificent eyes to search my face. Finally, she reached out her hand and covered my palm with hers.

“My daughter,” she said, “you have only one responsibility in this lifetime, and that is to enlighten yourself. You cannot take the responsibility for anyone else. And remember, you cannot truly heal or help another person; you can only provide, at the best of times, an environment within which others can heal and find themselves. That is all that you or anyone can do.”

“Pray,” Ruby Plenty Chiefs said. “Prayers can change the world. Your light will affect all of those around you and give them the strength and the inspiration to go on and celebrate the magnificence of what they are.” Ho!

In love and spirit,

Lynn
