Should I Stay or Should I Go? Part 1

"Should I stay or should I go? -The Clash
The question I am most frequently asked after; “How do I find my Soul Mate?” Is,” Should I stay in my relationship, or should I leave it?” Over the next few months I will be exploring with you a few of the questions that are involved in making that decision, a few of the questions, that when explored, will not only support you in making an enlightened decision, but in obtaining a new understanding of self.
There are some very important questions that need to be asked and a sincere reflection that often needs to take place when a cross roads, such as this has been reached. Before you take any action, here are some things you may you want to consider.
ARE YOU LOOKING OUTSIDE YOURSELF?
A relationship should never be entered into or ended if you are unhappy in your own life. In order to have a successful, authentic and integrity filled relationship, we must first be the relationship that we seek. It is ultimately our own job to create the life that we want. When discontent exists it is easy to look outside of ourselves, to hold others responsible for how we feel or what we do. The truth is everything is a choice. Often times if we are unhappy with our own situation, we will be unhappy with our relationship. Our relationship may be fabulous, but we will feel unhappy and will feel it must be something about the relationship that is making us feel that way. We are irritable, short tempered, restless and we blame our partner, because of their challenges, and their shortcomings and their inability to “satisfy” our needs, when in reality it is our job to satisfy our own needs. Many of us look to our relationship to provide us with everything, to “complete” us. Those of you that know my work know that in order to have a successful relationship we must “complete” ourselves, and satisfy our own needs. So ask yourself these questions: Am I happy with my own life? Am I living my greatness? Is my life where I would like it to be? Outside of my relationship am I happy? If you answer “No” to anyone of theses questions then you might want to explore obtaining an understanding of the things or areas of your life outside the relationship that you would like to change.
Getting rid of the relationship or looking for some new relationship situation will not change ANYTHING if the relationship is not really the issue. It is a very common mistake to leave someone for someone else; I refer to this as the Opt. Up Syndrome. The Opt. Up Syndrome is the illusion that if we could just find someone else (sexier, younger, richer, a better lover, someone who would take out the garbage) then we would be happy. The irony of the situation is the Universe will have us basically pick the same person in a different body again and again until we catch the clue that our relationship has nothing to do with our unhappiness. I believe to make a highest and best decision about your relationship in this scenario, the choice to leave should not be made until your life is satisfying and you are happy with it and living your greatness. I can not tell you the compassion I feel for those who loose a Soul Mate by mistake. Not that there will never be another, just not that one.
If you are completely in love with your life, in your greatness and having fun, however your relationship is creating pain and/or you are allowing yourself to be held back by your partner maybe it is time to leave. Sometimes we stay too long even though we know that we could never achieve the greatness that the Universe is trying to bring us as long as we stay with this partner. We have learned all the lessons we are meant to learn with our partner, and we know it. There is really nothing more that can be learned. Leaving becomes a tremendous challenge especially if we feel that we are experiencing Love or a Soul Connection. Not all Soul Mates are destined to end up together in this lifetime. Not all Soul Mates will learn the lessons or rise to the heights that the Universe is giving them the opportunity to rise to in this life time. So the Question then becomes; Why do I stay? Most people say they stay out of Love. That is a beautiful gift to give and receive. Love between two people, if it is real, never dies, it simply changes form. Lovers never really loose each other ever, sometime this lifetime cannot be spent together, because both partners are not vibrating at the same level. Love in reality means doing what is best for all involved. If you have grown beyond your partner, learned your lessons and are following your path, and your partner is in a different place, you can look at the pattern of your relationship. Do you jockey, growing at different paces, then catching up with each other or are you growing and your partner is running around in a circle in the same place? Then it may be time to go. If you are staying, are you afraid to leave? Afraid there will never be anyone else? Are you afraid of being alone? Are you using the relationship as an excuse to keep you out of further greatness? Anything that is stopping you from leaving, when you know you are meant to are issues that need to be recognized and worked through. Ultimately, if you follow the directions of the Universe and the signs are saying leave and you leave, the Universe will make sure you eventually attract the person that will support you and be your companion for the rest of your trip.
