Cat’s Eye is an amulet used for protection against witchcraft and death. It is a generic term for any gems, which show a band of light across a cut cabochon stone. The eye phenomenon is caused by the presence of fiber inclusions within a gem and the term often misused in the gem trade as an adjective; stones are referred as cat’s eye tourmaline, cat’s eye quartz or cat’s eye apatite, and the proper name describes Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl or precious Cat’s Eye.
Name:
Chrysoprase was derived from the Greek word "KHRYSO PRASOS" meaning "golden green"
Scientific Properties:
Color: Golden yellow, green-yellow, green with red and brown with cat’s eye phenomenon
Hardness: 8.5
Crystal System: orthorhombic; long prismatic crystals, intergrown triplets
Fluorescence: None on green, weak on dark red
Uses: Mineral collection specimen, gemstone, ornamental use
Location: Africa, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ghana, India, Myanmar, Norway, Russia, and Zimbabwe

History, Myth, Legend and Lore:
Arabs – believed that Cat’s Eye Chrysoberyl had a property that caused the wearer to become invisible in battle and used as an amulet from witchcraft and death. It was also used as a test of fidelity. When a man is about to leave on a trip, he makes her drink an elixir made of milk and washed with cat’s eye. This does not make her virtuous but if she commits adultery in his absence, no child will result to burden him with her sin.
Ceylon Natives – used this rare stone as a charm against evil spirits and throughout history had been used to counteract the evil eye.
Modern Practitioners – claims an increase in night vision and favored to heal in the treatment of eye disorder.
Vedic text of India – Vala, a demon god, was slain by the demigods. When arrested and bound by his enemies, Vala gave off a thunderous war cry, which transforms into seeds of Cat’s Eye and wherever they settled formed deposits of Cat’s Eye. The finest were said to have landed near the Sri Lanka’s famous Vaidurya Hill. The gem mined in this Region is known as Vaidurya stones. The legend continues to say the remainder of the seeds was carried to the heavens to impregnate the clouds, carried to Earth by rain and comets forming smaller mines in scattered locations.

Chrysoberyl crystallizes into hexagonal-type and tabular form of crystals and occasionally occurs in the form of a six-ray star configuration comprised of three individual crystals. The colors include shades of honey, green, red and yellow. This crystal brings compassion, forgiveness, and generosity and connects, activates, opens and aligns the Solar Plexus and the Crown Chakras, incorporates the mind into spiritual endeavor and increases spirituality and personal power. It is the stone of immortality and the stone of new beginnings, an excellent stone for creativity. It strengthens self-worth and releases outgrown energy patterns, helps you deal with stressful life and shredding unnecessary baggage, being able to see both sides of a problem or situation and use strategic planning. Chrysoberyl promotes the feeling of peace within the physical and intellectual bodies and allows one to forgive friends or family members who may have performed injustice, an excellent stone in stabilizing relationships.
Healing:
This mineral when combined with other minerals tends to enhance the energy transmittal from other stones and facilitates permanence in physical healing understanding and integrating the reasons behind the disorder; it highlights the cause of dis-ease. It supports self-healing, balances adrenalin and cholesterol, and fortifies the chest and liver. It aids the organs of elimination, increases resistance to toxins and pollutants and to ameliorate disorders of the liver, pancreas and kidneys.
ALEXANDRITE: is a crystal of contrasts, opens intuition and metaphysical abilities, creates strong will and personal magnetism. it is regenerative, builds self-respect and supports rebirth of the inner and outer self. Alexandrite centers, reinforces, and realigns the mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies. In healing it aids the nervous system, spleen, pancreas and male reproductive organs and regenerates neurological tissue. CATS EYE: has magical properties; a grounding stone but stimulates the intuition. This mineral provides protection and dispels negative energy entering the aura and brings confidence, happiness, serenity, and good luck. Cat's Eye treats disorders of the eye and improves night vision. It relieves headaches and facial pain and can be worn on the right side of the body.
CYMOPHANE: is a form of Cat's Eye that stimulates and stabilizes the intellect and supports flexibility of mind. This stone enhances unconditional love. In healing it has been used to treat intestinal disorders, heart irregularities and night-blindness and provide relief from feminine discomforts.
