Tarot: Gigi Miner's Ethyrial Tarot
The Vision Blurs
|
|
 |
by Gigi Miner |

No matter the commitment or succinct vision in one’s life, there usually comes a moment of total confusion. Everything that we have believed and understood suddenly seems strange to us. Those things that we hold precious seem to lose their value and we are left floundering just to keep from drowning in our confusion. All of us are subject to such times. For many, we can ignore all of the whispers in our soul and move beyond it, but it still comes. Others of us cannot block out those “voices” and we move toward the sirens’ call.

Our card this month is the Hanged Man from the Ethyrial Tarot ©. We see a lovely, natural scene. We also see a magnifying glass that somehow seems to distort the beautiful picture. The traditional Hanged Man shows a person suspended by one foot with hands behind his back. The traditional interpretation is that of being in limbo or caught between a rock and a hard place. When this card appears, there is often a feeling of being out of control or having the universe “pick on” us. Our Ethyrial version can be seen much the same way. The main difference is the perspective. We are looking through the eyes of the one being hanged, rather than merely being an on-looker. Perspective does change dramatically when we are the active party as opposed to the passive one.
Have you ever had a time in your life where you thought you knew exactly where you were but something, and maybe even something that makes no sense to anyone but you, suddenly placed all of your understandings in jeopardy? It is not an uncommon thing. We all have or will see this particular crossroads in our lives. For some it will be a minor glitch, for others a life-changing event. Regardless of what or how, our vision seems to blur and we are unsure of our direction. Even our usual mode of guidance can lose its voice to us. There is nothing wrong with being confused. In fact, I would say that these moments of questioning are the foundations of our soul. To never question is to never test the strength of one’s resolve and understandings. If you have never climbed out on that tree limb, how do you know if it will support you when you need to rely on it? If the ground has never been walked upon, how can you be sure that it is firm and not some quicksand in disguise?
In an Amish community, did you know that the teenagers are given a time of freedom to explore the outside world? This is done so that each person can determine for him or herself whether or not they can live the plain life of their family. This is a testing period, a time of life gone wild, so-to-speak, where each person is allowed to fully explore other alternatives to the life in which he or she was raised. How many of us in the “English” world have such opportunities to test out our own beliefs? Most of us move beyond our childhood into the life of our choosing, never having explored alternatives. Moreover, if we ever do try to experience something different, we are immediately castigated by those around us for leaving the pack.
In this instance, the Amish show great wisdom in the continuance of their lifestyle. It has to be a choice. Each of us has to make a choice about our lives, whether one or several times. The key is to know what you want. Oft’ times this comes only on the verge of losing that wanted thing. Sadly, the general consensus in this life is that you cast away the violating “thing” or person immediately. Conversely, the Amish open wide their arms to any returning children. Their experiences in the world do not darken their souls; instead, it assures everyone involved that the choice is well made.
Can you think back to a time when you made a poor choice? How were you received by the people in your life? Were you forgiven with open arms, no questions asked? Or were you reminded over and over again how much you failed? Imagine if you were allowed to make the mistakes that we all invariably make and knew that those who loved you would still love you even after the many horrendous missteps. How does that feel? It could make a difference between finding the correct and happy path as opposed to drudging on down the expected one. Now, turn that around. How have you treated those in your life that have made mistakes? Do you assail them with verbal lessons and reminders of their mistakes, or do you open your arms, embrace them and never again mention their faults?
Spring is nearly upon us. With it comes the rebirth and renewal of the earth. What better time to consider the Hanged Man and the possibility that all of us, at some time or another, will stumble and fall. Each of us will find a time when the vision blurs. It is during this time that you can find out who truly loves you and it is during this time that you can understand your own capacity for love and forgiveness. When next you stumble or witness the fall of another, consider our card. How do you want others to treat you after such a moment? How will you treat another?

Tarot Consultant,
Author & Teacher

Gigi Miner is a minister, ordained by the Universal Life Church, and has a Doctorate of Motivation from the same.
“One of the greatest benefits of Tarot is being able to take control of your life rather then be a victim of it,” is the motto of this professional Tarot consultant, author, and teacher, from upstate New York.
Moonlighting as an adult education instructor, Gigi brings that experience into her Tarot and writing work, helping clients and readers to find their own inner wisdom. Gigi has taught classes on tarot in regular and e-formats.
Believing that "laughter is the best medicine,” there is often a lighter tone to her teachings. When conducting an adult-education class, one of the main questions she asks is, "Are you having fun?” If the answer is "yes" then she knows that her students are learning more then if she were teaching in a more traditional mode.
Gigi has written articles for various newsletters, including Tarot Celebrations, World Tarot Network, and Gateway to Tarot. She has released a book entitled, “Light-of-Day Tarot & Dream Work,” which is available at www.lulu.com/ladyfogg.
Her two novels, "Card Shark" & "The Fallen" are available at all online bookstores or by visiting:
