The Holistic Mystic:

Crop Circles Are Real
by Lonny Brown, HHc.

Here's one of the sweeter ironies of our time: While considerable scientific effort is rightly being devoted to SETI - the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence - as well as a new generation of telescopes hunting for possible life "out there," irrefutable evidence of non-human higher intelligence is appearing right here on earth, continuously, and all over the world.

I'm talking about the very public phenomenon of crop circles; those football-field sized mathematically precise, concentric/spiral designs that etch themselves into grain fields overnight, leaving no other evidence than their stunning beauty in the morning farmlands at thousands of locations (predominantly in Great Britain, but also in 29 other countries).

I'll tell you right up front that this healthy skeptic believes that crop circles are non-human in origin because I believe in science, and no technology yet developed by man can either re-create these intricate field-sculptures as they appear, nor account for their origin, despite decades of study by serious researchers. You can find all the data and debate (plus hundreds of amazing crop circle images and videos) online,* but my educated conclusion is that - the inevitable professional hoaxers and debunkers notwithstanding - these remarkable graphic displays are evidence at the very least of some large-scale, "extra-natural" pattern-generating energy phenomenon, with properties similar to the structures inherent in crystals, plants, and quantum mechanics. Think giant, high-speed, invisible lazer-beam prismatic harmonic sonic/thermal trans-dimensional projectors.

The grain stalks reshaped by this as yet mysterious force are bent but not broken, at uniform angles, with precision that no human or machine has been able to duplicate. Tests reveal unusual magnetic signatures and harmless short-lived radio-isotopes. The immense art pieces materialize overnight, and some observers say, as quickly as 15 seconds. Like snowflakes, no two crop circles are the same. Most fascinating is the fact that over the past two decades, new displays are not only appearing more frequently (over 10,000 reported), but they are increasing in size (the largest is almost a mile long), and complexity of design. Their appearances reveal built-in numerological, mathematical, and geographical and astronomical correlations. Very intelligent.

Meanwhile, conspicuous by its absence is a single official government pronouncement on crop circles. It's not like the surveillance, intelligence and defense capabilities of the world's military could possibly miss these huge new features on the land. Think of the spy satellite technology that has been available in the last 30 years (during which modern crop circles began multiplying exponentially). The US has been known to thoroughly investigate much more bizarre phenomena - including UFO sightings - in the name of national security. The reason governments have remained silent on crop circles is the assumption that the truth (that they are humanly unexplainable) would cause widespread disruption, if not panic.

Yet crop circles have the exact opposite effect. We have no hard proof yet that they constitute messages from Martians, but another ("higher?") form of life trying to communicate with humanity at this stage in our development could hardly devise a more ingenious medium.

Crop circles are totally non-threatening. Beholding one elicits a direct positive neurological response, way before the mind can figure out why. They merge the universal language of math with the beauty of art, creating organic/fractal/nested/omni-directional designs that mimic nature but also seem super-natural. These elegant emblems are universally appealing, in the same way that flowers attract bees, kaleidoscopes fascinate young and old alike, and mandala art and sacred geometry are rooted in all spiritual traditions.

What a brilliant way for an alien civilization to create an absolutely benign impression with its initial overtures to modern Earthlings. With crop circles, the medium is the message, and - local energy anomalies and power disruptions notwithstanding - the impression is purely inviting.

Crop circles are a seductive, not-so-subtle form of mass communication, gradually, then more rapidly being discovered by greater numbers of people, through the Internet and mass media. As proof of their success, these huge "puzzling pictographs" have now been seen and accepted by millions as a great contemporary mystery, yet nobody worries about them at all. By drawing harmless, eye-pleasing and intellectually appealing symbols in wheat and rye, our visitors are adhering as close as possible to the Star Trek Prime Directive of non-interference, while still sending a clear message that might just help humanity.

As for what that message is, crop circles resemble nothing so much as giant greeting cards; saying, "Hello, we're here! We're friendly! We have some things in common!" The best possible outcome would be if the realization that we preoccupied humans are not alone somehow hastens the advent of world peace. That may seem like a stretch in these contentious times, but it wasn't too long ago that such a totally new and unexplainable phenomenon as crop circles would have been deemed equally impossible.
