	Namaste! Welcome! Blessings! With all my heart and with the greatest respect, I offer blessings of love, peace and abundance to all. "Satsang" in Sanskrit literally means Question and Answers in the company of saints and seekers. It is a gathering of special Souls where spirits are lifted and the highest Truths are revealed. It is a place of transformation from the suffering of old age, pain and the cycle of birth and death. It is a place of transcendence into timeless, limitless, formless, omniscient being, beyond thought & imagination. Wow, these Satsang places sound great! Where does psychism, metaphysics, psychology, religion, medicine, energy work, art & science and the ‘mundane existence’ end, and the doorway to ‘Self-Realization’ begin? Can one lead to the other? How do you know you are on ‘The Spiritual Path’ and ‘making progress‘? For the busy spiritual seeking consumer, is there a direct path to God-Realization that embraces all these, AND is practical? Is there a system of Wisdom Tradition that encompasses it all? Yes there is! There are a few in fact, and our purpose here is to get to know one of them. The ancient and secret science and wisdom of Kashmir Shaivism can help you move along in your pathwork to Liberation. The Way of Kashmir Shaivism From the misty dawn of existence of mankind to the present, Kashmir Shaivism of the Himalayas of India has been a veritable Geography Map of Human Consciousness and how it gets from ground zero to that much sought after prize, Enlightenment, or God-Consciousness. Enlightened Saints, Sages and Seers of this tradition were kind enough to document their direct experiences of God into a system of words that clothed that which is nameless, formless and indescribable. While this body of secret knowledge was passed down through the ages by oral history from Master to Disciple, and incorporated elements of Buddhist and Hindu Tantrism, metaphysical doctrines, yogic practices and devotional music, dancing, singing and poetry, there are 3 core, cannonized texts considered to be authored by Shiva, God Himself, and central to Kashmir Shaivism. They are the Shiva Sutras, the Malini Vijaya Tantra and the Vijnana Bhairava. These Holy Sutras and teachings of Kashmir Shaivism were almost lost to us over time, but thanks to the Maharaj (King) of Kashmir of the early twentieth century, the body of knowledge was gathered, printed and sent to libraries all over the world. The tradition is now making a huge comeback due to its great appeal to the modern man. It explains everything! And it comes complete with the How-To-Steps, kind of like "The Idiot’s Guide to Enlightenment"! All that is required for the natural, easy ascension of mundane existence into the firm establishment of the divine, according to this system, is ‘Shaktipat’ by a True Spiritual Teacher, (Guru, or God-Within) and ‘right effort’, the 2 wings of the sincere seeker. Shaktipat is the bestowal of Grace by the ‘Guru’, the catalyst for the event, and the consequent awakening and ascension of Shakti Kundalini. Shakti Kundalini is the great divine female creative energy, or Goddess of the Universe. She is asleep, dormant like a coiled snake at the base of the spine until awoken by the gift of Grace. Once this happens, all you need do is surrender to the natural process and you are on your way to Nirvana! ‘Right Effort’ is simply commitment to a spiritual practice (sadhna) that is right for your level of Awareness. This could mean Mantra, Chanting and Devotional activities,( ecstatic music, dancing, poetry, drama, art), to Scriptural Contemplation to Adept-Level, ‘I am That’, God-Awareness practice. Aratis and Pujas are ceremonies and altars used to imbibe the sacred teachings and divine experiences of Self. Most students (sadhaka, spiritual seekers) use a combination of levels of practice and change it over time as they progress. Communities of students (Sanghams) gather at Ashrams or follow their Master Spiritual Teacher (also called Guru, though ‘Guru’ has multi-level meanings, based, again, on the level of the persons Awareness, or Consciousness). With Shaktipat and the guidance of the Guru, (God-Within, the Self), yoga happens spontaneously, self-healing starts immediately, barriers and blocks in your life fall away and you are supported, protected, healed and lifted automatically by unseen, powerful, silent and divine forces within and all around you, all at a pace of change just right for your level of unfoldment! Sounds too easy? Well, there are challenges on the way. We are talking about Enlightenment here, which means divorcing the false identification of self-identity from the limited ego-personality, and recognizing the transcendental, limitless ‘True I’ of firmly established bliss, peace and love, the Self, the Universe Within. It helps to know the real source and context of what might be happening to you in your life, because if you had Shaktipat, nothing is ‘ordinary’ or just a ‘coincidence’ ever again, but rather a clearly marked road to God-hood. Write me! Sometimes it is hard to see and understand the signs of this Path to Liberation, (actually an integration, dissolving or unfolding into wholeness better describes the process), or the Path of ‘Siddhas’ (divine beings, perfected souls, saints), and so this is where the ‘Geographical Map’ of Kashmir Shaivism and this unique The Meta Arts column comes in. So, write me! As a Siddha Monk (Sadhu) and true Master Spiritual Teacher supported by God and surrounded by a community of other Master Teachers, your questions and reports of exciting or challenging experiences about spiritual pathwork are at the right place. For example, you are in a rut, restless, just got fired, lost all your friends, quit your relationship and have a sore throat, all because of your untamed outbursts of righteous indignation that look like royal adolescent temper tantrums, but you used to be a quiet, friendly person not too long ago! Is this a frustrated closet Ego-Maniac Know-It-All, a Bipolar/Manic-Depressive case or someone going through 5th Chakra Kundalini Ascension? This behavior, in the context of a spiritual seeker with a true Guru and active Kundalini, is actually normal and necessary for the Spiritual Lessons of the 5th Chakra level of world reality and is a sign of high-level spiritual unfolding, called Spiritual Integrity, or Alignment with Your Truth. This is a precursor to clairvoyancy and energy healing powers, a natural process of the activated Shakti Kundalini at the throat level and third eye level. But it won’t complete unless the person goes through this to some degree! One can not transcend what one has not mastered! Here’s another one. A person has started meditating to relieve stress and beginning to experience involuntary, spasmodic muscle movements and tremors of the spine, abdomen and jaw, and sometimes even their eyes roll around involuntarily! They also experience periodic back and abdominal ailments. Are they demon possessed? Suffering from Parkinson’s, Chronn’s Disease, an adverse drug reaction from their medications, food poisoning? All of the above? Or is it the divine entity, Shakti Kundalini, a mighty force all of its own, clearing out ‘Samskara’s’ (karmic energy blockages), from the Meridians (or ‘Nadis’), and energetic channels along the spine and a great, auspicious sign of self healing and cellular transformation at work? Or you may think you have a more cosmological concern, say, what is the nature of God and how do I move from Witness to Unity Consciousness without losing my mind, my personality and the things that are important to me? Do they always go in the end? Wow, great question! This egoic fear stops many of us from entering the final stages of Enlightenment. While I am being humorous here, I know these are actually very honest and common questions about natural Kundalini ascension. I encourage you to write in your concerns and questions or reports about what you are experiencing ~ more than likely, as the way the universe works, many others will also benefit from the column discussion about it.
