The Eclectic Metaphysicist
Of Healing Elixirs?
by Jim Hansen
This month we'll take a break from theory and talk about an interesting healing technique, that of healing elixirs. For whatever reason, students seem to enjoy this segment ofthe program more than any other single topic taught in my Advanced Reiki course. Although fairly esoteric, from the instructor's perspective it is simply an effective way to demonstrate communication between the healer, the client's body and coupled energy transference. When imposed on one's self, it is one of the fastest and most interesting forms of self Reiki treatment that you're likely to encounter.

The essential methodology behind healing elixirs is that of energy transference. In this practice, healing energy is delivered via a liquid medium that is consumed by the
client. Thus it is a form of "delayed action energy healing" since the elixir can be prepared days or weeks in advance and taken as needed by the client without further healer involvement.

The most common source of information for this technique is to be found in various gem and crystal books. The process described in most of them is usually vague and of a often uninformed nature. Generally it involves soaking a selected "healing stone" or crystal in distilled or "brook" water for a period of time. Depending on the book and stone in use, the elixir container is directed to be kept in darkness, moonlight or bright sunlight during this time.

Once the desired amount of energy has been leached from the stone, the water, now termed a "crystal elixir," can be consumed. Instructions for preserving the curative powers of such healing tonics vary, but most recomend that the bottle be kept in the dark and tightly capped.

A troubling aspect of crystal healing is thus the inconsistency of public information. You'll find no uniformity of opinion, let alone "an authoritative source" that ties specific crystal types to a particular physical or metaphysical issue. Books, however thick and scholarly they may appear, tend to be one of two types: those that have obviously copied information from others, and thosewhose information doesn't relate to any other.

Nor do popular references indicate that crystals have the same or common properties andn influences across disciplines, such as between yoga and healing. For
example, amethyst may be related to the throat chakra in one and an entirely, unrelated bodily aspect in another. Worse, any web search for "crystal elixir healing" reveals a plethora of pitches for every imaginable potion and affliction, all available for a price.

Right away this raises three problems for the energy healer. First and foremost is that typical crystal energy elixirs require a diagnosis of the ailment before the "right" crystal can be selected, second, there seems no consensus as to what crystals are related to what ailments or body locations, and third, it would require a major investment to build up a collection of healing stones to cover a normal healing practice.

On a personal basis, this collides with my teaching practice that expounds that healers do NOT diagnose; as a healer, such is at best a distraction, and at worst, it may cause a boondoggle.

Depending on the level of your rationality, the body of information surrounding crystal healing and energy elixirs is at best suspect. Even so, some years ago I decided that I had to know, once and for all, if there is anything to so-called crystal energy and particularly to crystal healing. When the time came to put it to the test, I made a rock shop owner very happy one day when I bought a couple hundred dollars worth of a variety of mineral and crystal specimens - not to mention three or four of his most recommended - and expensive -crystal books.

Happily, the results of my work in this field show that, yes, there is some validity to this subject area, but sadly confirming that most of what you'll read in popular print is probably wishful thinking. The discoveries that I have made can easily be taught to others and are not wishy-washy. Most people who try them find that they work , but for those for where they don't, the failures are
unambiguous.

So there seems no in-between, which is good. If this concept or practice isn't for you, there's no need to waste your time fooling with it, and you can immediately go on to something else that is
better suited to your talents and abilities.

I invite you all to try the following healing technique and judge its
validity for yourselves. Although I won't go into the metaphysical principles behind the it today (they're all related in my upcoming book), I promise you that your results need not be based on any belief or faith; they will either work, even for the mostagnostic of the agnostics, or they won't.

General Requirements for Preparing Energy Elixirs

The only requirements for that you need to prepare energy elixirs is to have received the Reiki I attunements, and have a piece of ordinary quartz crystal, generally the larger the better.

Before you run out and buy an expensive crystal, let me explain that the appearance is unimportant. Nor is it important that it be either "double" or "single" terminated, that is, has a point on either one or both ends. In my Reiki classes students purchase four crystals that are about 3" - 4" long and about 1/2" to 3/4" in diameter, at least one of which being doubleterminated.

I have a preference for clear crystals with a little frosting on one end, but that is purely aesthetic as I have been unable to discern any difference in metaphysical function between "pretty" and "ugly" crystals. Pretty and ugly are purely rational judgments and have no bearing on metaphysical property.

Although our discussion today centers on using the crystals to energize an energy elixir, effective crystal energy technology, or "crystal energy machines" requires at least three good-sized stones plus a master to charge them with. It is best if you buy your crystals together so you can build up your familiarity with them at the same time.

My early quartz collection. I bought a wooden cigar box for $2 from a local smoke shop and made it into a nice home for my crystals. These are the sizes I recommend for beginning student use and for crystal healing technology. I use a larger, 2-1/2 pound crystal for direct client healing. The larger the crystal, the more energy it can handle between charging and discharging.

Such crystals can be expensive if you go to your local rock shop, perhaps as much as $35 or more each! So instead I buy them by the pound for my students directly from a mine. Of these, I recommend the one run by Stuart Schmitt, the Sweet Surrender Crystal Mine. (www.arcrystalmine.com). Sure, he has some fancy ones, but simply tell him the general size and shape that you want, ask for his "AAA" grade if you want clear ones, then buy them at $30 per pound. (Again, the bigger, the better, if you have the money.) Tell him you want the same sort of crystal that Jim Hansen buys and that should help. You'll end up with between four and six really nice crystals for about $30, plus postage. If you get one you don't like, he'll exchange it for
another.

Elixir Base Stock

If you are going to use healing elixirs, I recommend making up a "base" stock, infusing it individual doses with energy as you use it. Until the base stock has been loaded with healing energy, it is only something to drink and has no special storage requirements beyond that of ordinary beverages.

You can use virtually any drinkable fluid for this purpose, Port or Sherry being good bases because they need not have any particular preparation and can be used right out of the bottle. But the favorite in my Reiki classes is "Tarragon Brandy." As the purpose of the elixir is healing, it gives your client a psychological benefit if the base is something more out of the ordinary than plain water, and this brandy base is certainly that. No one ever guesses what it is made from and it makes a good gift if you do personal gifts.

It takes a month or six weeks for the base to "mature" (smooth out). Start with a visit to your friendly libation store and buy a 750 mL bottle of brandy. It isn't necessary or beneficial to use an expensive brandy, so get the one that is on sale. From your local grocery, pick up a large bunch of fresh tarragon or a bottle of dried, it doesn't matter which.

If you are using fresh tarragon, wash several good branches, then pick off two big hand fulls of leaves and put them in a clean one quart jar. Otherwise, use a tablespoon or two of dried tarragon. Pour in the brandy and tightly cap the jar. Shake the jar every so often over the next four weeks or so as the mixture infuses the tarragon flavor.

At the end of this period, put 6 cups of sugar into a pan with just barely enough water to wet it, then bring it to a boil. Skim if necessary. Let the mixture cool down a little, then add to the brandy and tarragon, stirring until the sugar water is dissolved. Let it sit for a few more days at least, then filter out the tarragon (use a funnel and a coffee filter or paper towel), then reseal the brandy, letting it age a bit longer.

The final result is a very pleasing, very smooth brandy elixir, which is nothing but a pleasant, relaxing drink. Our next step is to infuse healing energy which will convert it into a healing medication.

About Healing Crystals

Before going further, a few words should be said about quartz crystals. Metaphysically, these things are amazing. Even after you clear out their stored energy, they will almost immediately start picking up whatever is around them. Thus their energy aspect is that of the chameleon.

You'll find a lot of different ideas on removing such "residual" energy, a process called "cleansing" in most crystal books. I teach two methods, the first is physical; simply rinse the crystals under running water from a faucet - no soap required. The second is metaphysically based through intent. Wave a hand over the crystal three or four times while focusing your intent that the extraneous energy be dispelled from the stone with each pass of the hand. Although this takes practice, it is good training, for it exposes you to the principle that through intent you create effect.

Check for crystal energy by isolating the crystal using a silk cloth or on an inverted glass.)
After such cleansing, it is a good idea to check for residual energy in anyform left in them. Do this by placing the crystal on a blue or purple silk cloth (a metaphysical energy insulator symbol), or on the bottom of an overturned glass. The idea is to separate the crystal from other energy sources. Next freshen your sensing hand by brushing your shirt, then move it over the crystal to see if it is clear. If an energy response is felt, the crystal is not clear and you should re-cleanse it as needed until you can no longer feel a response from it.

Preparing the Elixir

I make my healing elixirs as they are needed, keeping a fresh batch in reserve. You can, of course, infuse the entire batch of base stock at one time, but I do it by the dose so an entire batch doesn't have to be used for each client.

Making the base stock into an elixir is best done by first transferring the specifically desired healing energy to a quartz crystal, then transferring that energy into the stock.)

The procedure for infusing the energy is straight forward. First, pour some base stock into a glass. I like to use glasses of the variety shown in the photo since they are somewhat "ceremonial,"or at least they are not of the common kitchen variety. Again, this is for the psychology of those being healed, not for any metaphysical reason.

Before starting the energy infusion, if you like, ask your client to take a little sip to get a sense of what it is like before the energy is infused, another psychological boost. Ask the client to notice the flavor, smell and sensation as it is slowly savored, then swallowed. After you've loaded it with the energy, most people find it changes character in some subtle way, such as flavor, strength, sweetness, smoothness, smell or the way it feels going down their throat. Sensitive clients often report feeling it expand in their chest as the energy starts its effect.

In any event, it is now up to you, the healer, to get your healing energy into the stock.

If you are like most, your first inclination is probably to put your hands around the glass and give it Reiki. It would be instructive for you to try this for a couple of minutes, then break off, and
scan the glass for energy. Chances are you won't find any, or if you do, it'll be very weak. So at this point, we will break with Reiki convention and use a better technique to infuse the healing energy.

Our objective in this type of healing is not to give "Reiki" but to give "that type of energy that the client's body is requesting," resting assured that both Reiki and this type of energy are one in the same. What most Reiki classes don't teach is how you can adjust your Reiki energy to match the SPECIFIC needs of your client. Although we aren't going into the metaphysical theory supporting this activity today, the following technique accomplishes just that.

First, establish your intent on finding the location of the illness in your client's body that is requesting healing energy, knowing that this location may be removed somewhat from the area of the actual complaint. Freshen your scanning hand by lightly brushing it on your shirt, then scan the body until you feel an energy presence. With proper intent in place it will be clear and unmistakable. Pick up your cleared crystal and holding it so the sides face the client, change your intent to charge it with the energy being requested by the client's body. Move it around the area that you just sensed for perhaps 30 seconds or a minute, monitoring the flow and knowing that the energy going into the crystal is coming from your hand (or hands if you want to hold it with both).

Every crystal has a finite energy capacity, and when they can hold no more, if you are a sensitive, you'll feel the energy starting to back up into your hand and arm. If this sensation happens, it is time to discharge the crystal into the elixir.

You can also check on the crystal's accumulated energy by returning it to the glass and sensing the energy in it. As an experiment, and while learning the technique, I ask my students to do this often so that they can experience for themselves that the process is actually working and it isn't a matter of wishful thinking or imagination.

Use your sensing hand and discover that the energy field is STRONGEST and projects away from the crystal more on the sides than on the ends as you might suppose. This is why we position the crystal sideways when charging and discharging it.

At this point we are ready to transfer the energy into the elixir base. Adjust your intent that the crystal energy should now completely move into the elixir as you touch the SIDES of the crystal to the glass for a few moments, perhaps five or ten seconds. The transfer is nearly instantaneous, as can be verified by someone holding their sensing hand over the elixir when you first touch the glass with the crystal.

Return the crystal to the upturned glass and verify it no longer holds any energy. Scan the elixir and discover that the energy is now there. If this is the first time you've manipulated energy in this way, it may come as a mind blowing shock to find it actually taking place and that you can really do it. It IS an exciting experience! If you'd like to talk about your reactions or maybe lack of them, just drop me a line at my email address. I am available and I will respond.

The elixir base has a lot more energy capacity than a crystal of the size shown in the photo, and so you should probably repeat this procedure several times, then offer the elixir to your client...or yourself if you want to give yourself Reiki.

We are almost finished at this point. Once the elixir is charged with energy, ask your client to sip - not chug - the healing elixir. Ask the client to describe its change in taste or sensation as it flows over their tongue and down the throat. The reason for this is to impose on their rational mind that "something" has happened, and that will help them accept, at the rational level, the healing that will now take place.

And this is how genuinely effective energy elixirs can be made by advanced and even not so advanced healers.

By your intent the crystal stores only the healing energy that is
SPECIFICALLY needed by the body because the body itself stipulated the requirement. Thus your healing becomes more efficacious, takes less time and is certainly more fun to perform. Best of all, your healing practice no longer needs all those stones and other occult trappings, because now you know and understand that you can supply everything that your client needs, directly from who you are.

With a little practice, you'll soon be working in tandem with your healing crystal, streaming out your healing energy in multiple channels while using the crystal many different ways. But these
are subjects for another day. In the meantime, observe the energy flows as you heal, for it is the flow that tells you how best to serve the needs of those who come to you.

As at first an article of faith, but eventually as pure knowledge, know that everything you need as an advanced healer is already there - right there inside you. As you heal, observe the flow, then follow it to its source. It is a highway well worth
traveling.

Jim Hansen
Bachelor of General Studies Summa Cum Laude
Healer, Author, and Reiki Master

Jim is a retired embedded systems electronics engineer and Reiki Master with extensive metaphysical interests and background in energy healing, remote viewing, and channeling. Born with latent psychic abilities, his metaphysical interests started before high school with experiments in hypnosis, astral travel, palmistry, meditation and eventually yoga that he started practicing while tracking satellites for nearly two years just 600 miles from the north pole.

His engineering background and technical training give him a strong analytical foundation for his metaphysical exploration and adventures. Always the practical engineer, his interests are in application of metaphysical principles for the betterment of those living in the physical. He has a unique way of equating the metaphysic with present day science and its ever-expanding discoveries.

This column explores a wide range of topics related to healing, but fundamentally, it is devoted to answering the toughest metaphysical question of all: How can I use what I've discovered in the metaphysic to better my present day life experience? Jim maintains that the purpose of living in the physical is NOT to become non-physical. That, he says, will come soon enough for all of us. But given that parts of the metaphysical are open to exploration, then, he says, it is entirely valid for us to use whatever we find there as a tool for living our lives to the fullest.
