Lapis Lazuli |
Composition:
Lapis Lazuli's main ingredient is the mineral Lazurite. Lapis is considered a rock due to the several other minerals it contains, including Calcite and Pyrite.
Color:
Lapis Lazuli is a beautiful dark marine to azure blue in color. The surface looks to be granular with fairly distinct crystals and polishes up nicely. Grayish or off white patches of calcite can reduce the value of lapis as a gemstone, while shiny pyrite veins and speckling often distinguish true Lapis from other similarly blue minerals.
Name:
The name Lapis Lazuli comes from the Latin word lapis, meaning "stone" and the Arabic word lazaward, meaning "Heaven."
Hardness Scale:
Lapis Lazuli has a hardness of between 5.0 and 5.5 on the Moh's scale..
Location(s) Found:
Lapis Lazuli has primarily been mined at Sar-e-Sang in Afghanistan for over 6,000 years and is still mined today under primitive conditions. Other locations include: Siberia, Chile, Burma, Angola, Canada and the U.S in California and Colorado.
Chakra Placement:
Lapis Lazuli should be placed at the throat chakra when working with communication issues or health issues in the throat area. It can also be placed at the forehead for physical migraine pain or for more "higher self", spiritual uses, such as raising our vibration to contact Spirit Guides, assisting in dream work and allowing trust in our own intuition.
Healing Applications:
This is a powerful stone for migraine relief and pain. Great for stress relief, depression and insomnia. Lapis Lazuli aids in boosting the immune system as well as benefiting the respiratory system, throat and thymus gland.
Metaphysical Uses & Properties:
Lapis is associated with the throat chakra and speaking/communicating our truth. It is a stone of protection and enlightenment. Wonderful for assisting in openness, inner power, love, purification, objectivity and intuition. It is considered to strengthen ones mind and body. It allows us to tap In to our own inner power while purifying the soul and thoughts. It assists one in contacting Spirit guardians and/or to open up to their own psychic abilities. Excellent stone to utilize when doing any type of dream work. Thought amplifier. |

Cleansing:
Stones come in contact with and absorb a variety of energies, so it is always a good idea to perform a purification and cleansing before using them. The following are a few of the more common methods, preferred because they utilize the powers of the elements:
1.) Place stones outside in direct sunlight for 3 days to a week. Each day, at dusk, remove the stones. You can then check how they feel. Some stones will clear in only a day.
2.) Bury stones in the ground for a week or two, allowing the earth to purify them.
3.) Place in a net bag, secured, (so they do not float away) in a nearby stream, overnight and allow the moving water to purify them.
4.) Place covered in Kosher Salt or Sea Salt overnight.
You will know when they have been cleansed by the way they feel and look. A "cleared" stone has life and vibrancy.
Stones like to be bathed in light. Keep them out of harms way in a sunny area. When carrying them, use a fold of soft cloth or a special bag.
