CHOICES: The Art of
Conscious Creation

by Teri Harris Saa
Dear Reader,

As I promised, this month I'm going to discuss perhaps the most important choices you will ever make. The choices you make before you are born.

Life begins…A nervous young husband standing silently next to his wife and gently stroking her hand waits. The midwife finally gives the instruction to "push" and the soon to be new mother takes a deep breath, grits her teeth and bares down. Her husband assists. Their first child is about to be born. What will it be like? Will it be a boy or a girl? What type of personality will it have? How will it respond to life? And how will life respond to it? These questions and many others dart back and forth in his mind while he waits.

This scenario or something like it is played out every few seconds as somewhere in the world a child is born. Roughly half of them are boys and half are girls. Most are healthy, but many are ill. Some are born into wealth and some into poverty and suffering. There are many hundreds of diverse experiences into which children are born, but to what purpose? That's the question I'd like to address and to do so means that I must make pronouncements based on my beliefs and not on fact.

How are family dynamics, personality traits, social status, intellect, health, physical appearance and life experiences determined? Could it be strictly genetics and environment that determines them? Or could there be some other force behind the circumstances into which we are born?

Astrologers and numerologists make their living helping people understand who they are and what set of characteristics and circumstances were set up for their lives at the time of their birth. These people and their patrons believe that some part of us makes pre-birth choices. Are astrology and numerology right? Are they really reading our cosmic blueprint? I don't think anyone knows for sure, but in my own experience the percentage of rightness attributed to astrology and numerology seems to be too high to be simply coincidence.

Over half of the world population believes in reincarnation-the re-birth of the same soul into perpetual lives. The tenets of reincarnation say that we make pre-birth choices.
Is reincarnation a fact? Again, I don't know. I can't truthfully say that I clearly remember any past lives. And even though I have performed many "past life regressions" and experienced a few of my own, I can't say for sure that the experiences were real. They could have been a healing tool or a processing tool created by my unconscious mind, or they could have been fact. Even though I can't prove reincarnation, I can choose to believe in it and in pre-birth choices.

Obviously my beliefs about pre-birth choices cannot be considered as fact, because they have not been proven in the proper scientific fashion. But through personal observation, experience and inner communion they have been proven to my satisfaction. So, dear reader, what follows are my beliefs about the choices we make before birth and the reasons we make them.

As above, so below, is an old metaphysical saying which means that the same cycles and patterns found anywhere in the Universe are repeated everywhere. Just as we are born into human form as an infant and then grow into physical, mental and emotional maturity, so our authentic Self (also known as soul, spirit and higher self) begins Its existence as an immature soul and then through many lifetimes grows into spiritual maturity. From infancy through adulthood the human self becomes more and more clear about its purpose in the physical world. And as It matures the authentic Self progresses in Its understanding of Its purpose as a creator. As below, so above. The saying works both ways.

The Universe is the Source of all creation and every creation of the Universe is also creative. Every soul created by the Universe is on a journey to understand that It is a creator and to master the creative process. With every lifetime the Self gets closer to this goal. The number of lifetimes the Self needs in order to completely mature depends on the pre-birth choices It makes as well as the after birth choices made by Its human self. The maturation process of both the authentic Self and the human self is the journey toward becoming a conscious creator.

Last month I mentioned that we are born into this physical world equipped with an ego, a mind (both conscious and unconscious) a personality and a certain level of intellect. I also said that these are components of our authentic Self and that they are the tools used by the Self to interact with the physical world. Just as a doctor in surgery chooses the proper tools for reaching the specific goal of an operation, the Self chooses tools to help It reach the goal It has set up for a specific lifetime.

Before being born, the Self chooses its personality structure and intellect. Together these determine how deftly the Self will respond to the physical world. A strong personality and a large intellect will give the Self a completely different life experience than will a weak personality and a small intellect. The Self also chooses the major life experiences, the family of origin and the early life stimulus. It chooses these experiences for the purpose of developing basic pre determined belief systems and thought patterns. The life experiences, belief systems and thought patterns then create scenarios used by the human self and the authentic Self as opportunities for continued growth. With each experience and each life, the authentic Self moves closer to Knowing Its true state of being and to Being a creator. The amount of understanding and spiritual growth the Self is able to attain in each life sets the stage for the next set of pre-birth choices.

Next month, dear reader, I'll talk about the different types of pre-birth choices made by the Self at the different levels of Its development. The young soul makes very different pre-birth choices than does the mature soul, the old soul and the master soul.

Please remember to send me your questions. It doesn't matter how personal or universal they are, I'll do my best to answer them.

Blessings,
Teri
