The Nodal Horoscope In Synastry

Constructing The Nodal Horoscope
Almost all professional software programs in astrology have an option to calculate a horoscope in the Nodal zodiac. Your software will refer to it as "Draconic." What the computer realizes and does in its calculation of a Nodal horoscope is as follows:
The Lunar Nodal Axis is at 0 Aries-Libra in every horoscope constructed in the Nodal zodiac because that is the point on the Moon's orbit where it passes from south to north of the ecliptic.
All positions in the Tropical horoscope are measured in terms of their distances from the Mean North Node in the horoscope. This distance, in degrees, is then added or subtracted (depending upon the position in the zodiac) to the North Node in the Draconic horoscope.
As an example, here are the horoscopes of Denzel Washington done in the Tropical and Nodal systems. To find the Nodal horoscope position of a planet or Angle, begin with Denzel's North Node. If we want to find the position of his Nodal system Moon, we count the distance from the Tropical North Node to the Tropical Moon to get approximately 34 degrees. This tells us that Denzel's Nodal system Moon will be 34 degrees from the North Node, or at approximately 4 degrees Taurus (3 degrees-25 minutes to be exact.

Another example: The distance between Denzel's North Node and his Tropical Venus is approximately 37 degrees. To find the position of his Nodal Venus, subtract (because Venus is behind his North Node in the zodiac) 37 degrees from 0 Aries to get an approximate position of 17 Aquarius.

There are two factors to consider in Nodal horoscopes:
1. The planets never change Houses. They only change Signs.
2. The farther away your Tropical North Node is from 0 ARIES, the more changes there will be in the Nodal representation of it.
What The Nodal Horoscope Symbolizes
Our Tropical system in astrology is Sun-based. It can be said that the horoscopes that emanate from the Tropical system of astrology describe experiences of interactions with the physical environment and not necessarily the soul-dimension. The Nodal Zodiac symbolizes the state of evolvement of one's soul development. The reason why Cayce was not given the Tropical or Sidereal systems in his trance states is because those systems do not address the evolutionary state of the soul. The Nodal zodiac is an extension of what we have learned about the Lunar Nodal Axis, both spiritually and synastrically. The "larger than life" bonding that is present in Nodal Axis contacts becomes amplified in Draconic system ties. Nodal horoscope positions symbolize the expression of planetary energies at the soul level. These expressions are then shown to the environment through the Tropical positions. It can be said of the Nodal system positions that it is a horoscope that shows you more of the role that you play in the world from a spiritual point of view.
Finally, utilization of the Nodal zodiac adds other options to synastric analysis! This will show, as it were, the highest symbolism of "soul mate" potential that we have in astrology, again, extending the symbolism of what we have learned about the Nodal Axis.
There are instances in synastry where two people have been in a long, fulfilling relationship for tens of years, yet, the expected inter-aspect contacts are not there. I have found that when you construct either horoscope using the Nodal system (Tropical to Nodal), the strong contact is there. And when the synastry includes strong ties from each Nodal horoscope, it is an indication of a "soul-mate" level relationship.
Examples
The bi-wheel shown here has my Nodal system positions on the inner wheel and the Nodal system positions of Noel Tyl on the outer wheel. The synastry is incredible!!!! Noel's Jupiter is EXACTLY conjunct my Ascendant with his Sun!!!! My Jupiter is conjunct HIS Ascendant!!! What better indication can there be of mutual identity support? And it is at the deepest level possible. Noel's Mars conjoins my Midheaven, suggesting his promotion of my career. There is more, for sure, but just that portion is quite enough to demonstrate the point of what can happen in synastry when the Nodal system is included.

Any combination of Tropical and Nodal horoscopes can be used for synastric purposes. It does not have to be limited to the Nodal horoscopes of two people. I will demonstrate this using my horoscope to revisit the synastry between myself and my friend, "AJ".
Using my Tropical horoscope with the Nodal horoscopes of "AJ" and "N," look at what happens? Their Nodal Sun's are nearly exactly conjunct my Tropical Sun!!!!!! "R's" Nodal Ascendant is exactly conjunct my Sun!!!! How much of a "coincidence" can this be?

Personal Relationship Examples
In my private work with synastry, I always, always have the computer construct Tropical and Nodal horoscopes for each person. On double-ring horoscopes, I make the traditional comparisons, Tropical to Tropical and I compare each person's Tropical to the other person's Nodal. Lastly, I compare both Nodal horoscopes. If there are no Tropical nodal contacts shown, or if there are no strong contacts made using the Nodal horoscopes, the chances are that the astrology is reflecting a relationship that does not impact either person significantly.
This is the traditional double-ring horoscope synastry between me and a former significant other whom I will call "M." Her Mars and Ascendant square and conjoin my Nodal Axis. My Venus squares her Nodal Axis and there is certainly more with my Jupiter conjoining her Ascendant and closely trining her Sun, etc. We met on a blind date. The chemistry and attraction were immediate. After even an hour, the familiarity and mutual comfort were simply scary.

The synastry changes dramatically when we convert each horoscope to the Nodal system. My Sun now conjoins her Ascendant. My Mars is exactly conjunct her Venus and her Pluto-Jupiter conjunction is almost exactly conjunct my Venus. What's more, if you make a Tropical to Nodal comparison, my Pluto is in exact opposition to her Sun. What does all of this mean? It is a sign of two people who have enormous potential to impact each other's lives significantly. What's more, with the Venus activity, the romantic and sexual dimensions are strongly emphasized and believe me when I say that it was so!

"K" and I continue to share a friendship today after having shared an extremely meaningful, and impacting relationship years ago. We begin by looking at the traditional double-ring display for Nodal Axis contacts. Her Saturn conjoins my Nodal Axis and my Mars squares hers. And as would be expected, there are other significant contacts.

A very interesting thing happens when K's horoscope is converted to the Nodal system. Her Ascendant changes to 9 degrees Leo, the same degree as my Tropical Sun! As well, her Tropical Capricorn stellium becomes a Cancer stellium that conjoins my Tropical Cancer stellium, incorporating my Uranus conjoining her Mars-Venus conjunction, suggesting a powerful sexual attraction. My Pluto is in a near exact conjunction with her Nodal Sun! This is a reflection of my dramatic impact upon her soul. These things confirm and enhance the traditional contacts.

Again, the inclusion of the Nodal system horoscope shows relationship potentials that operate at a deeper, long-lasting, impacting level than is so otherwise.
Summary
Despite the spiritual dimensions that are associated with the Nodal horoscope, I would suggest that you look for the aspect contacts between these horoscopes without attaching spiritual significance to them. Simply use the system as another option in synastry with the understanding that it represents a deep inner level. The options in synastry are Tropical to Tropical, Tropical to Nodal, Nodal to Tropical, and Nodal to Nodal using a Person A and Person B scenario.
Lastly, use common sense in synastry. Horoscopes will not make a relationship last. There are many, many pieces of a puzzle that must fit for a relationship to work fulfillingly. Astrology should be used only as a guide in the process. After all, I am sure that there is some woman somewhere who has the perfect synastry with Mike Tyson but you can be certain that any relationship with an individual who is as troubled as he is will not work.
The analysis of each individual horoscope in a relationship cannot be overemphasized. Unmanaged issues tear relationships apart as much or more than any other factor. You must always check for the issues first, see if they have been managed, and then compare horoscopes for potential. In the end, the proof of the pudding is in the eating and nothing surpasses experiencing time with the other person. The horoscopes are not in the relationship. People are and it is the two people that have to make things happen. Their horoscopes are only a reflection of potential.
