Creating Bridges: Spirituality & Philosophy:
Living With Your Intuitive Child:

Meditate - Be a Better Parent

by Sherry Healy
So many young parents struggle through the early years of parenting allowing the pressures of household finances, chores and personal growing pains to interfere with the magical moments of raising children. While at times tired, pressured or simply bored, many parents seem unable to appreciate the magical questions, the playing of games and the hours of caring that are necessary when raising any child. So, these parents, like obedient workers, push through every day, happy to see their own bed time and put an end to another overworked day. And while children do always demand much from a parent, once the job of hands-on-parenting is complete, every parent wishes that she could have cherished more dearly those elusive moments.

As parents, once we have stepped past the threshold of elementary and middle school parenting, we begin to see life and our children in a different light. Our days become more relaxed and we begin to miss the young energies of our children. We want to take the time to talk with them. We want to take the time to answer unasked questions. And, "we" want to play. But, we find that we can not get back the moments we have lost. Or can we? We no longer have the chubby tummies to rub or the silk covered heads to kiss. We are now faced with adult-like children who have made friends, developed interests and learned to close their bedroom doors while leaving us out in the hall. But, there is way to make a spiritual connection with our children, even if they have reached the age of independence. Or, if we are fortunate enough to still have those tiny spirits at home, there is a method we may practice to keep our hearts aware of the special moments of parenthood. Meditation; through meditation we can cultivate the intention and spirit of good parenting.

So, the message of this moment is…… meditate and learn to appreciate…

Stop…..take a deep breath….relax….and ponder the moment and your child….Read and reflect….

The meditation, I AM, is designed to remind each of you that this physical life is brief and each moment is precious.

I Am

By sHEALy

The sun rises and I am alive
I am a child
The sun sets and I am alive
I am a friend
The sun rises and I am alive
I am a partner
The sun sets and I am alive
I am a grown
The sun rises and I am alive
I am a parent
The sun sets and I am alive
I am a guide
The sun rises and I am alive
I am a friend
The sun sets and I am alive
I am a foe
The sun rises and I am alive
I am a thought
The sun sets and I am alive
I am alone
The sun rises and I am alive
I am here
The sun sets and I am gone
I am a memory
The sun rises
I am a
The sun sets
I am
The sun rises
I
The sun sets…..

While parenting your intuitive child, your own health, attitudes and wisdoms are constantly reflected upon your child. Setting aside time each day, through meditation, to become a more aware and spiritually confident human being, will help to become a more appreciate and effective parent. Learning to meditate is a most powerful means of grounding your own spiritual pursuits and energizing yourself for that job. Even if you are a parent of a child who has begun his own path toward independence, spending a little time being grateful for your child and job as parent will help you to maintain a blissful relationship with your Universe, self and child.

So, the message of this moment is…… be well, and know that all is well for you and your child as you meditate…..

Stop…..take a deep breath….relax….and ponder the moment and your child….Read and reflect…

The meditation, I AM, They Are, is written for parents of adult children living at a distance.

I Am, They Are

By sHEALy

Each morning they rise and I see their happy smiles.
From my dreams they speak to me.
Each morning they rise and I hear their lovely voices.
From my thoughts they laugh with me.
Each morning they rise and begin their wonderful day.
From my heart I know their intentions.

My day moves smoothly past all disturbances.
I know my child is safe and happy.
My day moves smoothly through peaks and valleys.
I know my child is blessed with wealth.
My day moves into evening.
I know my child is loved.

Food touches my lips today.
My child grows stronger.
Food moves through my human system.
My child maintains health.
Food nurtures my organs, muscles and brain.
My child is bright, healthy and eager to live.

Evening approaches and I see the sky.
My child feels my presence in the darkness.
Evening approaches and I see the moon.
My child feels my love in the lights.
Evening approaches and I see the dark.
My child feels that light of my love.

I sleep peacefully.
My child is at peace.
I sleep and dream of success.
My child is successful.
I sleep and rest my spirit.
My child is relaxed and calm.

I love myself.
My child is loved.
I love my child.
My child is loved.
I love life.
My child is loved.

So, we have learned that, through meditation, new parents learn to honor each moment of parenting and mature parents learn to remain strong of mind and spirit while reconnecting with the spirit of their children. And, through the methods of meditation, all parents learn a process of improving attitudes, maintaining love and being available to their first job; the job of parenting. And, all parents can choose to cherish every moment of physical time left with their babies when they learn to meditate.

1. Practice breathing with intention. Listen to and feel your breath as it flows into your body.
2. Sit with back straight and body relaxed. A comfortable body will learn to grow strong and reach upward while meditating.
3. Expect to change your attitude, health, spiritual journey and relationships through meditation. Meditation is a profound method of self discovery.
4. At first allow thoughts to flow in and back out of your mind as you meditate. As you become more proficient in your meditating skills, your mind will learn to clear itself of cluttered thoughts.
5. Know that a meditation teacher will find you and help you along your path.
6. Expect to love the practice of meditation. It is addictive and wonderful and it will change your life.
