The Fleur de Jour:
Astrological Timing of Remedies.
|

Have you noticed that particular remedies may lie dormant in the box for months or even years, and suddenly every second client needs them? (Have you also noticed that you yourself wind up needing that particular remedy?) These ebbs and flows in the Fleur du Jour seem to be evoked by the planetary combinations that form in the sky. Likewise, by reverberation, when an aspect like a Mars/Pluto square forms in the sky, people with that combination natally seem to come for readings about the issues involved.
As astrologers delve into a natal chart, any number of problem areas can be apparent, so as many as ten to fifteen remedies may suggest themselves. How do you determine which combination to give to a client? Many practitioners rely on pendulums, kinesiology, or other methods to narrow down the choices. However, transits themselves can provide valuable direction.
Parts of the birth map receiving important transits show areas of greatest stress, where clients are most ready to work. Given this climate of readiness for change, remedies related to those issues can be powerful catalysts. For example, a person with Venus conjunct Saturn may have always felt isolated. With a transit to that combination, the remedies for isolation like Bach's Water Violet, the Alaskan Flower Essence Project's Single Delight, or FES's Mariposa Lily can have a strong positive impact.
Astrologers who are learning to work with the remedies as an adjunct often ask for a list of remedies that go along with each planet. On one level, it is possible to do so--Pluto transits often require remedies for releasing resentment (Holly or Willow by Bach) or remedies for forgiveness (Salal by Pacific Essences, for example). When Neptune transits bring up a feeling of being a victim, Centaury by Bach or Making and Honoring Boundaries by Desert Alchemy can prove helpful.
At another level, however, it is a disservice to the client to impose rigid formulas. Rather, in the interview with the client, the birth chart and transits together show the issues that are up to be worked on at the moment. The client's level of insight into the issues determines the kinds of remedies that would be most helpful right now. As an outer planet transit continues, up to two years or longer, the process will change and so will the indicated remedies.
Transits often create a temporary aggravation of a problem, thereby stimulating awareness and change. Essences and other forms of vibrational healing may set in motion a similar period of heightened awareness and insight. Therefore, dove-tailing the right remedy with the right transit can produce a brief catharsis which is a powerful catalyst for changing patterns that have persisted for years. Though not everyone experiences such a catharsis, clients need to be prepared for this possibility.
Suppose a remedy for anxiety like Bach's Aspen is given at the peak of an anxiety-generating Saturn transit. The first effect may be a few days of panic which the client needs to know will pass. (Ego strength should be assessed before suggesting cathartic remedies.) The end result, however, is a good release of stored-up tension and new clarity about what is real vs. what is projection in the current situation.
The Fleur du Jour principle also seems to occur on a wider social level, with new remedies being offered to meet the needs of the time. It has often been noted that the Bach remedies reflected the Depression era in which they were developed and the FES reflected the Human Potential movement of the Seventies when they were developed.
As we entered the 90s and what numerologist Dusty Bunker called the Detox Decade, potent remedies emerged to support that collective concern. Among the remedies that seemed to meet the need for cleaning up and clearing out are Pegasus' Black Cohosh, which their literature says overcomes old thought forms and psychological scars, their Golden Seal, which is to remove scars from old emotional traumas or even past lives, and Comfrey, by Perelandra, described in the catalogue as repairing higher vibrational soul damage from traumas in this and other lives.
As we approach the Millenium, a unique astrological picture has emerged. With both Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius and Pluto continuing in Sagittarius, the focus is likely to shift off the personal and interpersonal into the collective.
Thus the environmental and interdimensional remedies some of the newer makers are featuring may indeed be the type of paradigm-busting aids that help humanity to reconcile its differences and separateness. A first choice, however, might be Shooting Star, which has not only helped astrologers to clarify their perceptions of the planets but which has also been a deeply helpful remedy for those feeling alienation.

Donna Cunningham is an internationally respected astrologer and the author of 13 books on metaphysical topics.
Donna Cunningham has a dual background in astrology and psychotherapy, with a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and over 30 years experience as a professional astrologer. She considers doing the astrology charts of children to be a sacred trust. It is a way of knowing who these Indigo children are on their own terms rather than as their families, teachers, and society expect them to be.
In these sessions, she focuses on typical childhood concerns such as family and peer relationships, the best educational approaches, and the child's special gifts and abilities. She can be reached for consultations at (503)291-7891, by email, or at her web page. Ask about her special rate for children's charts.
Donna is also co-editor of Vibration and a frequent contributor. She has written fourteen books on astrology and other metaphysical topics, including her Flower Remedies Handbook. Astrologers who want to know the special considerations involved in doing children's charts can read the chapter on this topic in Donna's text, The Consulting Astrologer's Guidebook.
Listed in several Whos Who volumes, she has given seminars on astrology around the world and won the prestigious Regulus Award at the 1998 UAC.
