Teachings from the Western Mystery Traditions:
The Esoteric "Paths of Return"
Some Basics
of Sacred Geometry:
God's Language of Number and Symbol

Sacred geometry is the most fundamental of all the laws of nature and is what creates "character" or "essence." Certain shapes and their correspondent number of lines that create them serve as key notes for the qualities of life that manifest in our universe, and through us as individual souls. They are "matrices with meaning" that hold the integrity of any particular form in place. This principle is the origin of all form, be it great or small. Pythagoras said "God geometrizes." And this is obviously so!
The principles of Sacred Geometry are based on the laws of nature, such as the Law of Motion, Rhythm, Number, Vibration, and Frequency. In all organic bodies, there are atoms, electrons and molecules that draw together around these various key notes, as around the nucleus of a cell, "blueprinting" all of creation.
In understanding your own character or essence it is important to know your own key note, the numbers and shapes that represent your unique Self. Following is a listing of the most fundamental shapes, to help you begin to assimilate your own original blueprint. And we must keep in mind that not only do we each have our individual key note, but so do the root races, cultures, nations, and families into which we were born. As we grow and evolve, our key note is raised to higher and higher degrees of one's octave of expression, and we come closer and closer to simulating and stabilizing our Ideal Design. Whenever we enter a new octave of expression, we have taken Initiation into a higher dimension. Wherever our key note stabilizes will become our center of consciousness, and as we evolve, we expand, becoming aware of things that were not evident to us before. This process underlies the secret of Humanity's ascension. And this knowledge is universal.
The Circle Eternity, Unity, Oneness, Cyclic Law, Continuity, Creation, Center, Deity, Revolving, Macrocosm, Everlasting Life, Fate
The Circle is a line beginning at a point and traveling in a curve until it returns to the same point; it has no beginning and no end.
The True Circle is ever-expanding, representing manifestation.
The Uroboros (the Serpent eating its own tail) is also a circle, but it is ever-contracting. The true circle is evolution, always moving forward toward more and more expansion. The Serpent Circle is involution, turning backward, a return to Unity. When the serpent swallows its own tail it means the two opposites have swallowed up each other -- a conjunction of opposites which brings balance. This brings all differentiation back to oneness. The end is swallowed up in the beginning.
The Line Motion is two opposite directions, the Principle of Duality, or the Law of Opposites, the Sex Principle
All due to electro-magnetic differentiation - positive and negative poles
A Line begins at center and goes out to two extremes. Good is that which unites. Evil is that which separates. They continually move further and further apart. Both emanate, however, from the Source in the center, where they are undifferentiated and not at war. The great mystery of ethics is solved in the Line. The Relative must ever be viewed in relation to the Absolute, the Part in relation to the Whole.
The Triangle Balance, the Three in One, the One in Three, the Binding Principle, Attaching, Creativity, Descent into Matter, the Number for the Perfect Human, the Marriage of Opposites
The Triangle draws opposites to itself, due to a mutual attraction. It is Will plus Desire which creates Unity. It creates cycles of Involution and Evolution: Descends into matter through Will of God, drawing us downward; Ascends into spirit through the Heart of God, drawing us upward. Manvantara/Pralaya cycles. Father/Son/Holy Ghost; Brahma/Shiva/Vishnu.
The Cross Sex differentiation, Sacrifice, Generation. Symbolizes the extinction of anything generated.
Horizontal Arm: Substance, Visible, the Feminine Principle, Magnetic, Yoni (Womb), Passive, Static, Something that is manifesting in time, External Reality, conscious mind and activity. Material Dimension.
Vertical Arm: Spacious, Invisible, the Masculine Principle, Electric, Phallic, Penetrating, Active, Dynamic, Spiritual Dimension.
The Square Manifestation, The Four Elements, Base, Foundation
Anytime something manifests in this world, it will be based on the Principle of Four. You can never get rid of the square. Yod, He, Vau, He. Masculine, Feminine, Binding Force, Open and Sent Forth.
The Swastika The Cross in Motion, Movement, Four Streams of Energy (Earth, Water, Air, Fire), Emanation from the Trinity, Wheel of Fire
The Swastika is a symbol much older than Naziism. Tied to the Square, not the Circle, though its movement creates a circular energy that is continually revolving. Builds energy as it goes, gathering substance around a nucleus. This is the means of creation. Represents Spirit actually grounding in the World of Form.
The Diamond (Two Triangles placed on top of one another, pointing in opposite directions) The Macrocosm/Microcosm, Investigation by experiencing Truth's opposite, Divine Experiment, Crystalization
Every step taken toward individual self-interest brings us down; every step taken toward the good of the collective lifts us up. In any triangular shape, the energy will always run to the point. The Diamond cuts whatever it comes in contact with. When the two Triangles are aligned into the Diamond, we can "read the Open Book of Nature." Through the Law of Correspondence we study nature and stay aligned with Spirit. By analogy we study ourselves as a symbol of the Universe.
(Five Pointed Star). The Symbol for Man, the Manasic (Mental) Principle, Higher Mind, Intelligent Activity, the Five Lower Principles (physical, etheric, astral, concrete mental, desire), Mind strivinThe Pentagram g toward Buddhi -- the Sixth Principle of the Intuition.
The position of this Star is always with the point up. This indicates that the mind should rise above other principles and should always be our keynote. When turned upside down, it represents the Black Art, meaning the mind has been subsumed and weighted down by our physical sensations, appetites, desires, and self interest. It is a circle breaking into five branches, the five lower Principles, all emanating from a center that is beyond them. The Pentagram is the emblem of Freemasonry, standing for the bridge that moves us from the phenomenal world to the transcendent. The Light of the coming Race is Buddhic in nature. The Pentagram takes us to the Buddhic Plane so that our individual Buddhic consciousness can merge with the Universal Buddhic consciousness -- a new state for Humanity.
The Hexagram (Six Pointed Star or Seal of Solomon) Symbolizes Buddhi, Manas lost in Buddhi, the balancing of the Masculine and Feminine, the Higher and Lower Self, two levels of reality -- the spiritual and the material -- linked together in various relationships, "the Merkabah" (our individualized "energy field" -- or "Star Car" -- in which we soul travel while disembodied and between incarnations so that the integrity of our essence, or "seed", is maintained.
Through the Hexagram shape, we are immortal. Two triangles: spiritual (Atma, Buddhi, Manas) and material, Rupa, Linga Sharira, Prana (physical, astral, self interest) trinities, with Kama (desire) in the middle. Desire can go upward toward aspiration to serve or downward toward personal gratification. When the two triangles intersect so that the physical is drawn up into the emotional, you have a Nirvani; when the emotional is drawn up into the mental, you have a Para-Nirvani. These are states of consciousness we anchor in, until we reach the Maha-Para-Nirvani, or true enlightenment. Balancing between the two triangles, the spiritual and the material, one becomes a master of both, an Adept. Six principles are in full manifestation.
The Seven Pointed Star (Seven points radiating at equal distances) the Seven Rays, the Fohatic (Fiery) Force, the Great Breath, the septenary, the number of completion, the sacred symbol of Nature.
Seven currents of force emanating from a single center. Seven is known as the great number of the universe and of mankind and of everything else -- even of God -- as the beginning of all manifestation falls along a septenary path. Unity, in other words, manifests in seven directions, with seven rays dividing themselves into seven principles. We will study the Seven Rays of Creation more in depth to better comprehend the power and universality of this number.
The Cube This shape has six surfaces of equal dimension -- six square surfaces and three dimensions. It symbolizes two squares, one spiritual, one material, or one electrical, one magnetic -- the Square of Manifestation. The Cube symbolizes Nature, or one who has mastered Nature, the manifest with the unmanifest, a Free Karmic Agent (one who has completed all work of attachment), or Para-Nirvani (one whose individual and universal nature have merged). The Cube is a symbol of Spirit's descent into matter and its Great Return.
The lower square is the four elements:
Oxygen Luminiferous Ether Sight Fire
Nitrogen Tangiferous Ether Touch Air
Hydrogen Gustiferous Ether Taste Water
Carbon Odoriferous Ether Smell Earth
One must become absolutely emotionless before he or she can attain this state of consciousness symbolized by the Cube. Individuality is left behind. The desire body is drawn up into the mental, swallowed up into the higher principles. The seven principles of Man have been swallowed up by an eighth principle of Abstract Spirit. The Cube teaches us that all that is manifest is to be eventually drawn back into Spirit. This is the goal of evolution.
The Sphere (the union of three circles so as to present six semi-circles) Maha-Para-Nirvana, the Ninth Principle of Divine Spirit, the human spirit lost in the Divine, Absolute Divine Unity, or Para-Brahman, Jehovah, the transcendent spirit.
This symbol evidences the existence of a Divine Being who antedates its manifestation. In this state, the Human is completely swallowed up in the Divine. No ego remains. This is the merging of physical matter with mind and spirit. From this symbol we understand that the Divine Spirit is just as much as part of Nature as anything else, that God is not separate from us.
Squaring the Circle is the number twelve -- The Divine Trinity (because whirling triangles are what create the Circle) within the Four. The Circle is the symbol for Unity, with no beginning and no end. The Square is the symbol for Manifestation. "Squaring the Circle" is Unity in Manifestation, the mastery of alchemy and magic, flowing outward toward the periphery into the World of Form, the evolutionary "out-breath", or Manvantara, the art of creation.
When any manifestation happens we see the Circle breaking into four directions, the electro-magnetic fields separated into positive and negative force. Earth, Water, Air, Fire. This symbol is built by placing a Circle within a Square.
Circling the Square is also the number twelve -- Earth, Water, Air, Fire drawn back into the Divine Trinity. Flowing back to Center, our Source, which is the evolutionary "in-breath", or Pralaya. Bringing the manifested universe into harmony with the Center within. Symbolizes the closing of a cycle. The realization of Nirvana. The Amen.
This is the state of life where the external will become the perfect expression of the Center, so that our outer expression will reveal the inner being. When one can "circle the square" he can bring any obstacle of manifestation into harmony with spirit. When the Square is circled, multiplicity and rebellion in matter is swallowed up and the world has returned to Nirvana. This symbol is built by placing a Square within a Circle. Any part of the Universe that cannot be brought back to Center will eventually be obliterated.
God 'Geometrizes' through Four Universal Laws
The Law of Motion All things are the result of motion. This is the key to the constitution of matter in relation to force. There are eighty-six vibratory TONES which give rise to eighty-six different kinds of molecules that make up life. As these various molecules combine they make the varying differentiations in nature. Everything from God to man is the outgrowth of motion according to NUMBER in its varying combinations, vibration, and SOUND. Inertia is not a fundamental principle; if an atom were to ever stop, the world would disintegrate. Color, Sound, and Form and inseparably connected with all activity.
The Law of Opposites Everything manifest has its counterpart of equal and opposite force. The entire Law of Opposites is contained within these ten pairs: right/left even/odd hot/cold hard/soft light/darkness male/female good/evil stationary/movable square/oblong wet/dry. These are all abstract principles not dependent upon any concrete object for their existence, the object being their expression in the World of Form. All begins with electro-magnetic force. All Duality is a manifestation of Unity.
The Law of Balance This law of compensation rules throughout Nature. Jesus' statement "Cast your bread upon waters and it will return to you after many days" is a scientific fact. It is an utter impossibility to expand in one direction without the other activating and drawing us.
The Law of Rhythm Harmony is rhythm reaching stillness. When we can attain this, man's own rhythm has ceased and the Divine Will of God can manifest through us. Though we go through processes of discord and disharmony, when we can maintain a sense of the 'Big Picture' and remain patient, we can see that all is unfolding according to the natural cosmic rhythm of the highest Order and Purpose. We learn through trial and error not to "push the river."
