My 23 year old daughter was diagnosed as bi-polar several years ago. This followed several years of treatment for an eating disorder. Since several other people I know (and some other members of my family) also suffer from mood-related disorders of this type, I was wondering about the metaphysical basis of the whole bi-polar/mental disorder diagnosis is. Could you please comment on my daughter specifically, and bi-ploar diagnosis in general? Thank you. –Susan

Hi Susan,
Everything in the physical world has a spiritual source. This includes physical and mental disorders and ilnesses. The ego - the desires, are what keep us bound in physical bodies. We come to this plane to repair our souls and reconnect all the elements that keeps us from being one with G-D. The term in Kabbalah is the Hebrew word "Tikkun", which refers to a broken relationship and a need to repair the pieces to make it whole again.
Therefore, it is said that "the descent into disease is for the purpose of the cure, which will bring about an ascent into health and well being." "Holiness is wholeness." Disease ( dis-ease), be it physical or mental, is often a corrective energy in a life which has illness in a greater way. It is a wake-up call to tell us we have inner work to do.
On an esoteric level, your daughter's problem reflects a need to align the heart and the higher mind- these two elements are fighting each other. That is what she came into this life to begin to do. That is the deeper meaning of bi-polar, mood swings, and severe depressive states, in general. To be whole, the various attributes of our psyches need to be in balance with each other. All aspects of the self need to be in sync.
Besides medications that she may need for the physical being, the spiritual being needs to focus on developing more faith in G-D providing exactly what we need, rather than what the ego-desires- may want. That is part of the fight within her. It woud be highly benificial for her to get involved in doing acts of charity and kindness. As her soul experiences the goodness she can bring, it will begin to repair and reconnect
Amanda's experience is actually the wake-up she has needed for this lifetime. The inner experiences and changes that are occurring are not visible to the eye, but they are taking place.
